It was our 11th Wedding Anniversary weekend. After watching the Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo on saturday, we decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch out. The hubby being French, of course missed French food. After reading on some of the popular food blogs, Laurent Bernard at Portsdown have a good french menu, so we went down today for lunch. Check out of the photos of the place from their restaurant's
blog.

The place has a lovely ambience, set within the Wessex estate. It is rather inaccessible unless you drive but it is worth the effort. They also have an easy reservation system in place through
Chope Singapore which was what I used to reserve a table for our lunch. We also informed them that it was our special day and requested that they give us a nice side table which they happily obliged. Service was good and the atmosphere in the restaurant was nice & cosy.

The lunch menu there was really good. They had Coq Au vin, my favourite and Boeuf Bourguignon, my husband's favourite which we promptly ordered. Both dishes came into a little claypot which took quite a while to prepare and totally worth the wait. The hubby exclaimed that it was the best Bourguinon he has eaten for a long time, quite a praise coming from a Frenchman. I enjoyed my Coq Au Vin too. Both of us happily dipped into our dishes along with the lovely bread that came along with the dish, so much so that the hubby ordered extra bread along with it. Also worth mentioning was the Chevre Chaud, also my husband's favourite. He loves goat cheese and as a starter, it was a lovely beginning to our lunch.

The drinks menu is also extensive and includes a good selection of wine. We are not big alcohol drinkers especially not for lunch, so we were very happy with their drinks menu. The hubby is crazy about anything sour, so the selection of Home made lemonade is right down his alley. He tried a large Laurent's Lemonade which was very tasty. It was indeed lovingly made with fresh fruits as stated, while I had a thirst quenching Ice Summer Peach tea.
So without further ado, pictures of our lunch. We also had a lovely surprise, which was a compliment dessert platter to wish us Happy Anniversary. A lovely and thoughtful gesture on the part of the restaurant. We were well impressed and will definitely be back next time.
